[Thinstation-developer] Thinstation & Touchscreen support

Hello,

I was hoping someone on the devel list could help me, I'm trying to
figure out a way to use a thin client machine from www.ntavo.com
(their pxe model) with an elotouch touchscreen. I had originally asked
the guy that made pxes, but he wanted to charge me a ridiculous
amount. If anyone here can help me, I would of course be willing to
pay you for your time. The connection method to the monitor would be
VGA and serial.

The application is to use a thin client to boot up a remote desktop
session that supports a touch screen, it will be for my mothers
school. The program that will be started at connection is used to sign
in and out children at the school. We are on a limited budget and
would definatly appreciate any help.

Elotouch discusses their linux support on this page:
http://www.elotouch.com/support/linux.asp

The linux drivers are available on this page:
http://www.elotouch.com/support/dnld.asp

Thank you very much,
Mitchel

p.s. Thinstation is a wonderful product! We are using it on many
machine's currently and are very pleased! =)

Hi Mitchell,

if you search the developer list you will find that Darrick Hartman has
used the elo touch screens. Last message I saw he was having a little
trouble with rdesktop though (which it looks like you want to use...).

Miles also stated that touchscreen support had been compiled into the TS
2.2 kernel, so it may be worth seeing if 2.2 will work for you
(unfortunately 2.2 is only beta1, so it will be a long time before it
goes production).

Hello,

I apologize for the delay in my reply. I've been very sick this past
week. I have configured the screen to work with windows xp but I can
not find the calibration data anywhere. I'm not sure what you meant
exactly by the dos drivers otherwise I would have tried that method. I
have a working thinstation build via the 2.2 beta 1 distribution.

Trevor,

Could you please point me to where I could enable the touchscreen
support in this build?

Darrick,

If the included support in 2.2b1 doesn't work, could we continue with
your solution?

Thank you,
Mitchel

I believe that it is the undocumented 'module gunze' line that needs to
be added to your build.conf in 2.2beta1

See my comments below for the calibration data.

No. Gunze is used on Gunze touch devices. Elo devices use different
hardware and are not supported at the kernel level at this time (at
least I do not think so). Actually, the majority of the gunze touch
devices are not supported at the kernel level. That's a very specific
driver to my knowledge.

The support I'm using is by including the X input driver for elo.

The dos based configuration utility is found on the elo website. It was
pretty easy to find (use google to find the website, then seach on their
website). Since I'm anti-floppy, I used a dos bootable cd (again
google) and put the elo utilities on another cd.

I'll be rebuilding my hack this week. I need to include rdesktop 1.4
and make a few other changes.

My bad. I was getting confused with another item I was chasing up. The elo
drivers are X drivers, and the public ones should work with TS - but don't have
an elo touchscreen to test against. You'll have to do your own tweaks to the X
settings.
